Linda Jo Nazarenus creates richly intricate paintings primarily in oils, but also in acrylic and various mixed media. Her technique is largely influenced by the painters of the Northern Renaissance, building up many layers of oil glazes on panel or canvas to achieve a high level of detail and intensity. Her work centers largely around animals, landscape, weather, and the intensity and power of Nature, but also includes portraiture—all equally infused with a unique kind of intimacy.
Nazarenus has been drawing and painting since a small child and has continued the practice throughout her life. Having won recognition early, she earned her degree in Art History and went on to work for various artists, which enabled her to experiment in different styles of painting. She has also spent many years working as a Scenic Artist in the professional theatre and film/TV worlds, adding to her knowledge and versatility in materials, scales, and techniques which add depth to her pieces.
